jacquiPrincipal, Jacqui Coombes, has supported individuals and companies in their quest for knowledge, skills and experience throughout her career.

Jacqui has completed a PhD in competency and in the JORC Code. Her research underpins many of the frameworks she uses for developing competency and in assessing JORC Code competency. This research sits on top of Jacqui’s nearly 25 years’ experience in the mining and petroleum industries. Jacqui’s technical background is supported by a Master’s degree examining classical geostatistical techniques (1991).

Jacqui’s philosophy to work has always been to help others achieve. Jacqui worked with the student support services group in university to facilitate mathematical and statistical studies in disadvantaged groups. This taught Jacqui that skills shared are more valuable than skills hoarded.

After graduating, Jacqui joined an oil and gas exploration company, Soekor, to introduce and share spatial statistical techniques. After almost four years in Cape Town, Jacqui emigrated to Australia and joined Snowden Mining Industry Consultants.

Snowden provided Jacqui with 12½ years international experience in the mining industry through consulting projects across the mine value chain. Jacqui initiated and headed Snowden’s Technical Mentoring division. This experience strengthened her resolve to “care and share” and helped propel her to start up Coombes Capability.

Coombes Capability runs mentoring programs in various aspects of exploration and mining, technical report writing and communication. Jacqui’s focus is to build knowledge, skills and experience in the mining industry. Our latest course “Mentoring in Mining” is designed to develop mentoring capability in technical leaders.
